Just got the game yesterday, have a few questions.

1) Is there any means to open just the inventory part of the plate, and not the character stats/equipment? I assume not, but as it really obscures the screen when I'm trying to move things around etc, thought I'd ask...

2) One of the tips that pops up says you can't always fight, sometimes you need to sneak; in my experience that's rarely actually true in games, so do I need to bother with learning sneak or no? (playing on hardcore which I assume might make a difference with more monsters, please indicate if you think it might be necessary for hardcore but not other difficulties).

3) Will merchants offer to train you in things you already know? In the first battlefield I was offered pickpocket to 6 for 2000 gold; I already bought pickpocket back in the citadel, and I'm fairly sure it was to 10, unless I misremember. I don't want to waste 2k gold for something I already have.

Thanks in advance!

1. AFAIK it all integrated, so you cant. If there is something you want to use ingame try this....For example, I use the summoning dolls a lot, so I keep them on the left of my inventory. I then drag the window under the health status bar so this small section is all I can see. I can then click on them in game without losing much of the screen.

2 I'm on my 2nd time through the game and now on hardcore, and I haven't sneaked once. If your like me, and like to slash everything into the meat grinder, dont bother with sneak.

3. yes, there list is predetermined in all levels, though as you progress, the levels they teach are usually higher. I have heard of some instances where your level can drop back ie if you find a book that teaches level 5, then train from a merchant in level 2, then level 2 could be the max. there are some threads on this, and I think it only occurs on some rare circumstances.

I've never (in three times of completing the game in HC) found it necessary to sneak, but it CAN help you out at times.
It's always easier to pick your enemies off one by one than have them all whacking at you at the same time. And it's certainly easier if you're close to magic-using creatures before they can start casting all those nasty spells on you.
I've found two or three points in this skill very helpfull, more however is overkill. (well for melee chars anyway, if you're shooting arrows or setting traps it's another story)

WOW, Des!! You have played through this 3 times in HC?? That's dedication. I love RPG's, but I also love FPS'. I will be done with my first go round of BD in a week or two and it's a good thing because DOOM3 will hit the shelves on 8/4. After that it will be a while till I start another RPG!!

Thanks everyone, here's a few more for the patient and knowledgeable...

4) When I mouse over an item and it's identified, I understand luck helps determine how good it is. Is this based on the highest luck in party, or the luck value of the current leader?

5) Somewhere or other (I think in one of the reviews) I read about a weapon switch, i.e. to use bow & melee; maybe they were just referring to the primary and secondary skills. Is there any key combination to automatically switch melee and ranged weapons? (specifically onehanded+shield to bow, I didn't experiment to see if I could switch 2hander to bow)

6) Can summoned creatures not use bows? I gave my skellie in A1 a hunters bow which had no stat requirements listed, and no red marks when in his inventory, but he could not wield it, though he could equip arrows.

7) It seems to me that restoration potions (at least the minor ones) are not as effective as they were in DD, though I could be mistaken as I haven't crunched the numbers; are they still a % of hp/mp restored? (I can probably find the answer to this one, but since it's on my question page I'll put it here just in case, and go look while I wait for replies!)

Thanks again!

For item drops, it is the average Luck of the two characters that influences the quality.

In Divine Divinity you could assign hotkeys to weapons, but in Beyond Divinity the weapon bar was removed from the interface so this is no longer possible.

AFAIK summoning dolls should be able to use anything they can equip.

I have not started using restoration potions yet, since so far minor health potion have been good enough.

They are certainly able to use bows, I had my skellie using a bow for a while...
Have you tried dragging the bow over the weapons slot rather than clicking on it in his inventory?

I had the same problem, even after adding skill points in bow to a doll none of them would use either bows or crossbows. I also made sure they had arrows in their arrow slots, in case someone wants to know. I started the game with the latest patch, so maybe the latest patch broke this option. If anyone can suggest ways to check this, I'd appreciate it.

i too have also had the same problem as well. my skellie will use a crossbow, but not a regular one. tried clicking on them, tried dragging them into the slot. no dice. i just gave up on bows.
