Hope you guys got better understanding about this stuff than I do. Every time I go through the blessing ceremony at the Council of Seven, everything works fine until after the 6 council members are killed. When it switches back to my control over the character, before the screen can even load, the game (not my OS) crashes. I am using Windows XP professional with all recent patches (OS and game) in place. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

There is a video played at that point off the CD. Are you using a no-CD hack? If so, try again with the play CD in the drive. No-CD hacks usually just causes the character to end up a bit north of the council hall with no control, though (the map and inventory respond, but that's about it).

Try running the configuration program and switching to software mode (and maybe reduce the resolution); that helps with some cut scene problems.

Okay, I am running software resolution mode with resolution at 800x600, smoothness is also disabled. The CD is also in it's place in the drive. Also, like you said, the map orients itself just north of the council room, but the screen never loads, and after a minute, the game crashes. I haven't been playing with the CD up to this point, if that means anything to ya.

But have you installed the original exe file?? presuming you made a back-up in the first place ( always make back-ups when you change files in software ) otherwise the cracked exe will still have the same problems, if you didn't back up, zip up your save files (for precaution) un-install and re-install the correct version including patch 1.34 unzip your save file if neccesary and voila it will work

I have been playing with the No-CD hack since I had to switch to my back-up copy of the game. The original is too scratched to work in my CD drives. When I try to open the game using the copy it can't find the CD, and my CD crive won't even read the original, so using the No-CD hack is the only way I can play the game at all. Is there a way to move the movie file to the file folder, and if so, what file do I move, and where in the folder?

The movie files should not be too hard to find (large *.bik files on the play CD), however the game does not store the optical drive path in the registry or a configuration file, so you can not get it to look on the hard drive for the movies. Maybe a CD-ROM emulation program? If there is one which works with the copy protection in Divinity, though, setting it up with a non-working copy of the original CD might be a problem.

How scratched is the CD? Is the scratch on the reflective side or the label? Scratches on the top can be much more destructive. There are filler fluids available in computer stores, etc to fill in minor scratches, and repair kits that can grind down the surface slightly and smooth out larger scratches (some music or computer stores can to this, which for a single use would be cheaper).

Okay, scratched isn't a strong enough word. Obliterated is much more descriptive. My dog thought the CD was damn chew toy -_-

As for an emulator, you know where I can find one? I'm not good with finding software on the internet that actually works.

The first appears easier to use; both are freeware (for personal use).

Hekko Virtual CD

Quote
Hekko Virtual CD creates a virtual CD-ROM drive on your Windows PC. This allows you to make images of your favorite CD-ROMs and use them without inserting a CD into a CD-ROM drive. Hekko Virtual CD: 1) improves the speed at which you access data, 2) stops you from having to switch disks in and out of your CD-ROM drive. Use Hekko Virtual CD to easily access your favorite games, favorite music or favorite software programs. Since Hekko Virtual CD uses HekkoScan(tm), nearly *any* CD can be imaged.

Daemon Tools

Quote
Daemon-Tools is an advanced application for multiprotection emulation. It is further development of Generic Safedisc emulator and incorporates all its features. This program allows running Backup Copies of SafeDisc (C-Dilla), Securom, Laserlock, CDCOPS, StarForce and Protect CD (and many others) protected games. Also included is a Virtual DVDROM drive (Generic DVD-ROM) enabling you to use your CD images as if they were already burned to CD! DAEMON Tools works under Windows9x/ME/NT/2000/XP with all types of CD/DVDROM drives (IDE/SCSI) and supports nearly any CD protection.

BTW, for other software, try this site (and its list of links).

j00, I am back. I got the Hekko virtual CD, installed it, made a image of the game disc, loaded the thing, started and I got the insert CD message. Unlike when I was using the Actual CD, however, It is bringing up the message immediately, as if it isn't even looking @ the virtual drive for the CD.

Did you remove the no-CD hack? I believe the blessing ceremony will work with the hack as long as the CD is in the drive. The hack should get you past the initial check, and I would think the video should play off the copied CD image. Maybe.

Did you try ejecting/un-mounting and loading/re-mounting the virtual CD-ROM when Divinity popped up the error message?

Yes, I removed the no-CD hack, otherwise I would not be getting the message. I also tried keeping the CD in just in case. Tried reloading the image, too. NOTHING! HELP ME! I WANNA FINISH THIS GAME! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
