This is a bit annoying. One of the npcs(Brian) in the Battlefield has become invisible: he shows up on the automap as a green dot but I can't see him on the screen. I was able to see him earlier, though.

I've re-entered the Battlefield quite a few times but he still isn't there <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" /> Any idea how to fix this? Hex edit?

I'm in Act 1 and my game version is patched to 1.49, if I'm not wrong.

Some people have found that one or more BF merchants can shift locations, either occasionally or each time they enter the BF. If a merchant moves into another object (tree, tent, etc) they will become invisible.

Since you already re-enter the BF repeatedly, waiting for him to come out the other side may take awhile. You could try alt-tabbing out of the game and back, which can also sometimes shift NPC positions. These locations can also be edited.

Teleporting anywhere (via hex editor) - details on BF merchant teleporting are in two replies (the second may be a bit easier to understand if you are not familiar with hex editing)

Woohoo! Alt+ Tab worked. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Well, I've tried hex-editing but only once. It was with a DD savegame file and let's say that I didn't exactly end up where I wanted to go. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> I ended up near the Archer's guild instead of in Verdistis. Still, it wasn't that difficult, especially if you read carefully and follow the instructions and backup the save file. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I have this same problem. The BF merchant Brian has dissapeared. His green dot appears inside the tent on the mini-map, and after speaking with another merchant, Brian reappears. Unfortunately clicking on him after he reappears does nothing, and the moment I move toward him, he vanishes again.

I've tried the alt+Tab trick, but that didn't work. I'm looking into the hex editor route, but that's going to be a little dicey as the directions don't seem to match up with the locations of the values I see in my data.000 file.

Actually I wouldn't have cared, but he bounced out right after I finished his quest, so now I can't complete it.

Hopefully I'll get it sorted out.

Brian may be just on the edge of the tent graphic, or something, so visible sometimes but still technically obstructed.

What hex editor are you using?
XVI32 defaults to 17 columns (this can be changed in the options), rather than the standard 16 (or at least did the last version I installed), which could be throwing things off.

Thanks, I've set the columns on XVI32 to 16. I was able to find the first string, but I could never manage to find the 2nd string of text.

I've sent you an email. Thanks.

Unlike the main characters that have a full line of 'FF', followed by a second slightly more than full line, at least in this case the first 'line' is not a full one. I think you pretty much have it, but are likely at the second line, thinking it was the first (from the 'Start Agent Save' just scroll down a couple 'pages' until you get to the first line of FF that overlaps itself.
Alternately, in your file Brian's locations is (X = E9 06, Y = 38 0F), so you could just search down for the next hex instance of 'E9 06 00 00 38 0F'.

The first part of Brian's position should be changed from E9 06 to 40 08, or so (the Y value is fine).

I've also replied to your email.

Act II and Act III have this problem with this Battlefield NPC. The bugs in this game, after all these years is freakin outrageous.
