Me and my friends are unable to join each other due to an error message. Error states :

" Joining Failed: The session has no controllable characters available. Ask the host to free a character slot or recruit another character, then try joining again. "

This is an error we receive when trying to load from the same campaign that we all started together, and ironically enough the only characters loaded are the 3 of us (human players that we created) and then an npc companion. We have even sent the NPC companion to camp to make the party size 3 technically, with no success.

Any insight on a workaround for this or what we might be doing wrong is greatly appreciated. All together we are all really enjoying this game we would just like to continue out saves!

Thank you in advanced!

Hello,

Have you checked the button called Sessions when you press Escape ? It should normally allow to give a character(s) to a player.

Hello!

Thank you for the response. So whenever the host loads the game, they send an invite to the two of us who are not hosting. Regardless of how we try to join (either direct connect code, searching on the multiplayer lobbies in the Baldur Gate itself, Steam invites from the host), it results in the error above. Whenever the host clicks on session, it gives them the ability to invite up to 4 players as intended, however only one of us can join them. We just re-tested your suggestion to confirm, and the host sending invites from the session menu still does not increase the party size or get around the error.

Thank you!

Hey this is definitely a bug, my friends and I have run into the same problem. We were only able to fix it once, but it happened again once someone crashed. The way we fixed it was have the host go to camp, remove every character from the party, then send invites.

Here is an email i got from the Devs about the Issue

We’re so sorry to hear you’re having problems in multiplayer. That’s especially frustrating when you’re playing with friends, because you’ve both taken the time to synchronize and hang out. We appreciate you taking even more time to write to us.

What you’ve described is a known issue. We are aware multiplayer has a few issues at the moment and Team Larian are working hard on fixing them. The good news is that many of them will be solved in Hotfix 2 which we have already released, with the rest following. Here's some information on Hotfix 2: http://forums.larian.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=681702&an=82&gonew

If this still hasn't helped here's a few tips to help avoid issues in multiplayer:
- Avoid switching the character roster while other characters are in cut-scenes, and save frequently so you have a fallback.
- Try to avoid listening into a conversation that's just ended in multiplayer
- If using OBS with a friend to record, use DX11 mode
- Try to avoid clicking rapidly through dialogues
- Avoid manually saving directly after combat
- Avoid entering into dialogues at the same time when very far apart from each other
- Avoid connecting/joining the game while a character is in dialogue
- Avoid players disconnecting during combat (it's never on purpose, we know!)
- Use quicksaving rather than manual saving in multiplayer (F5)

The good news is we are aware. We’re listening, and even if your issue isn't fixed in this Hotfix, know we are still working on it.

Thank you,
