I highly recommend the "Epigrams" by the roman poet (poet ? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> ) Martial (originally he was from what is now spain).
They are a gem among ancient literature and so much ... "sex & crime" - type, that they've been censored for centuries now. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> The whole life ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> I don't really know whether you can buy an un-censored book of the Epigrams - I doubt so.
The style in which Martial writes is so higly cynical that it proves him to be a Master of Cynism. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> Truly ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/exclamation.gif" alt="" />

He was a friend of Pliny the Younger (right spelled ?), whose Letters I practically adore. The total contrast to Martial's "Epigrams", the "Letters" are very simple in a way, and personally I love them because of their ... style. I can't describe it, but they are kind of the other side of the coin (considering both Martial and Pliny the Younger).

When you find a big kettle of crazy, it's best not to stir it.
