I'm about to start my second game (despite barely being into A2 in the first game, terrible habit in almost every game I play...) and I was wondering if this is viable or if I'm going to run into trouble later:

I was planning on making the DK a melee/mage combo using wands as his weapon to take advantage of the fact that he doesn't need much str for equipment (what's the highest str needed for a shield?). Then I was going to make the hero a summoner/archer, with emphasis on summoning. I'm afraid that all those summoning points might be wasted though with all the negative comments I see about dolls. So, will this combo work, or will I meet some point in the game where main hero is just too weak, or something unforeseen?

Also, can you use sharpen to increase dmg from wands? (it would seem silly, sharpening a wand, but hey! if it works...)

Thanks! (not enough parenthetical comments above to suit me, so this one is included gratis, using excessive parentheses is another terrible habit...)

Oh, also, I seem to remember reading somewhere that you get extra skillpoints in hardcore, is that correct, and if so, will the extra skillpoints make the character more viable or will the difficulty of hardcore be too much for dolls to handle?

Some ent woods and such can be sharpened,
but all weapons that gain extra damage from intelligence cannot be sharpened.
To make this work properly, you'll need a high agility (since there is no skill path to increase your accuracy with the wands...)
And by the way, sharpening a pan seems very silly to me, but it works too...

In hardcore each char has a 30% chance to gain two skill points on level up (so about 10% chance both chars gain two skill points). And of course, as in normal games both chars get two skill points each five levels.
What level have you been playing before?
As far as I can tell, the monsters in hardcore aren't more difficult than on tactical, there are just MORE of them (as in about twice as much)

I've never really tried out the summoning dolls, so I can't help you out there.
Just remember that investing a skill point in level upgrade/extra skill slot will NOT gain a level or skill slot for each doll. They go into a communal pool and only one doll gets to use the level upgrade or skill slot.

Also, I don't want to spoil the rest of your game, but if you're going to invest points in summoning (warning: these skills cannot be unlearned) you're better off doing it with your deathknight.

that'd be 7 gd cs points down the drain. not like the summon doll is working that great anyway, but i thought they had potential at first. f.
