While in two play / multiplayer mode, the secondary character was sitting in the Barracks Commander's (Aurelius) chair, while the primary character was talking to him. During the NPC conversation, player 2 (myself) while sitting h=in his chair, stole the inkwell. This prompted a combat sequence that terminated itself and timmed out. The result was player 2 being stuck in the chair and unable to move / interact with the environment -- effectively rendering player 2 useless.
