im a lvl 8 mage right, i just got out of the catacombs(finished it) and i gto a whole lot of items to identify. i know i can go to anyone to have them identified (mardaneus charges 100 only!) but i cant bear it... stingy as you can see... so is it advisable for me to actually put in 2 skill pts into identify? the items are not bad IMO so...
and is there any way to stop all those (bloody) boars/snakes/wasps/bees from coming after me? it's a pain(literally) to have to deal with them. of course, i cld just run, but one time there was a whole i-dunno, swarm? horde? of snakes after my sister and they killed her off plus the what-dwarves? who were helping her out

I always do, its worth it, saves money. others will argue you get enough money later in the game; and they are right 2, so it just matters weather you want more cash in the begining or some more stats.
nope, wait... just kill them all! they're never come back then otherwise nope, you need to kill 'em all.

It is not so much a matter of money as convenience; moving your mouse over items is much easier than bringing everything to someone and identifying them one at a time. I put 3 skill points into Identify, got one level as a quest reward and found a belt with a bonus to Identify.
Once you move or run you mouse over an item, or hit the alt key while standing nearby, the properties of the item are set. You have to use Identify if you want to be able to quick save before doing this, then quick load to get the best stats on an item (running/teleporting to a merchant makes this much slower).

investing in identify skills is worth it as it saves u the trouble of running 2 the person whose willing 2 identify for say lower than mardaneus(though i doubt it). money is not such a big factor as later in the game u'll end up with more than u ever need.

i wouldn't worry about money too much..if you don't have much now i guess i could understand that....but as you go through the game you will sell LOTS of weapons and generally just stuff you pick up you know you can sell for the mulah i'm still playing DD for the first time and i'm already in the wastelands and i have about...say... 250,000 gold pieces.

I agree. After all the items you found in catacombs are very good (you will see when you indetify them), but also very heavy. It is rather uncomfortable to cary them all for identification. You can choose by indentifying them, which you want to keep and which to sell so you will have a lot of money before you even start. And a disent armor too. If you spent two points in indetify skill now, you will earn one more later in the game and you could identify even items which have charms slots wherever you are.

Five slot charm axe is I think one of the best. But if you must start all over again because you have to istall the patch do not think about it. The patch solves many problems and I think that you always find some really good axes in the catacombs. Every time I went through this place, I found lots of good and expensive axes.

hey thanks, though my heart bleeds at the thought of giving up so many weapons (which i cant use)
and back to the topic of pests, i cant kill/hit the wasps and bees and sometimes the boar, thogh i can hit the boar if it's far enuf, but no bees or wasps dead yet
and killing the bees/wasps will have no effect on the later quest right
*asking stupid qn cos it's my first time playing the game*

Lighte, if you target bees/wasps as a mage: Hit them 2-3x with your melee weapon and then use meteorstrike. I had that in my game - as if my mage had to "test" them first with her dagger, then the spell worked - same goes for boars. Kiya

Lighte, I might be a bit late (and probably am) but I will say it nevertheless - the loss of weapons you had to experience due to the need of installing a patch is nothing big to pity for. I only once (though I did restart the game many times) found something that was pretty useful later in the game and it wasn't a weapon. By the time you will meet the requirements for wielding any of the "Aleroth dungeon axes" you will have already encountered many better weapons.

Yes, it's strange, but I only had this the very first time I met a bee/wasp/boar - and it was reproducable in every game I played. As soon as I had used melee attack I could use meteorstrike and from then on my mage seemed to "know" the creatures and killed them right away with that spell. Kiya
