-KotOR's music was superb, and John Williams was rarely heard, so Kudos to Bioware

-The music in Syberia was excellent, very melancholy, but it suited the feel of the game down to the ground

-Final Fantasy 3/6 - Considering this game was on a 16 bit console, all I can do is shake my head in awe. Truly moving, truly fantastic. You cant explain this, you have to experience it.

- Beyond Good and Evil....I have the main musical tracks as Mp3's and listen to them regularly

The importance of music in games? It is basically the icing on the cake, the game itself needs to be good to be enjoyable, but a great soundtrack lifts it above and beyond. When you walk around in real life with a game theme stuck in your head, the creators have hit a chord.

With a great theme, it is as much a part of the game as the graphics, plot, and gameplay!

Favourite games with music:
[*]Bandits: Phoenix Rising - It's just so catchy and energetic!
[*]MechWarrior 2 - I used to listen to that on the way to school.
[*]Descent ][ - Ditto.
[*]Project Nomads - Very tribal. Fits the mood perfectly.
[*]Divine Divinity - But of course! Beautiful sounds which don't get in the way.

The music needs to be atmosphere, but without interrupting the game. I remember in Space Colony, I though some of the music was actually warning sounds and started getting concerned as to what was happening. The game should tak precidence, with the music enhancing it. It should just be a game with some music. I've got WinAMP for that.

Good background music does add to the game's atmosphere. But, if a game is really good, I play it anyway and just ignore the music.

DD has an outstanding soundtrack.. In fact, I got a couple of people I know, into DD because of its music. All I did was send them a couple of the tracks from the game, and they ended up trying out DD. And of course, they ended up loving the game as a whole! [insert gollum's psychotic laughter here..]. They originally didn't want to play the game because some idiots told them the game is not good. Ha! Showed them!
