Mirach,
The contents of the cupboard are random: I once found a [nocando] sword of agility there .

I wonder whether Larian has actually implemented the word [nocano] ...

my setup when killing fergus was deathknight as mage using missile (2water) & the other dude on bow. got him easily.

hope others can do well in getting fergus. one way to enhance your chance at getting him will be using one of your characters as bait (run around in circles while the other takes potshots at fergus).

Coes/Deathknight vs. Fergus score = 5-0

he hasn't killed me a single time so far. When the char he is wacking is nearly dead -> pauze, and take a healing potion for that specific char.

I haven't been able to kill him in a single effort, but he hasn't been able to kill me at all ^_^

How will I laugh tomorrow, when I can't even smile today...

I had problem with this as well, I think I died about 5 times. But then I realised what a mistake I've made. When I get lvl up's I used the skillpoints too much on given them fair to both strenght and constitution. But when I finally started over again and gave all my points to strenght for the death knight and agility for my hero (I was supposed to use the bow, but forgot it )I killed him very easy with only using one or two healing potions.

I tried two set-up for killing Fengrus, a mage/warrior combo and a survivor/warrior combo.

In both cases, the Death Knight is the most important factor as he will go up against Fengrus toe to toe, and he has the higher health. Either boost his defense/evasion with Agility/Speed/Survival or health with Consitution. The one skill point which you get shall be invested in specialising in a weapon's damage.

The riftrunner is straight forward. I picked elemental missile attack over elemental instant attack because missiles does way more damage. For the mage, I pump every skill points into Intelligence (or you could shift more points to Intelligence at the beginning).

For a survivor's build, the skill I picked is of course Poison. It works with missile weapons too! (Hmm...would this be unbalanced?) You shall be able to find a bow at the beginning, with arrows. If you run out of arrows, switch to a club and start smashing. The key is to make sure Fengrus stay concentrated on the Death Knight.

Well the first time I tried to beat Fenagus i died .
On the second try, however I was using a mage/warrior combination.

I used the deathnight as the punch bag and threw every INSTANT fire spell I could at Feanugus. He did, of course use restoration but then I had 5 mana bottles so I just kept replenishing my mana while I used the 12 health bottles to keep the deathnight alive.

So basically use your hero/deathnight as a mage and your deathnight/hero as a warrior and you should walk it. Just make sure you pick up enouph health and mana potions .

:SPOILER:

If only there was a two handed sword at the beggining of the demo .

I think there are many strategies on killing fergus.
I am playing on tactical and my char is a warrior and my DK is a wizard.

I gave my char the sword from the DK and boosted his strength to 11. fergus went down in a few hits and I needed 1 potion

I tend to play tag with Fergus (and just about any other baddie in the game).

The char beeing attacked runs away past the other char.
So if the DK is under attack he runs past the hero.
Just after the hero he turns around and starts running the other way.
The hero attacks the baddie.
A miss or hit result (in text) results in the hero now being attacked.
The hero runs after the Dk and past him then turns just beyond the DK.
The Dk attack
Any hit or miss (as text) results in the DK being attacked.
Ok I think it's clear what I'm doing so I'll stop now

If you don't get any text the character under attack simply runs back to the other one.

Biggest problem with Fergus is that I begin to run out of stamina in the period after Fergus uses the heal so that I need to do a bit of punching bag (This due to the low level, higer levels stamina is no problem).
Don't forget when you do this the pauze option is your friend and you'd need to use it after just about any attack.

This is just ridiculous. I tried for several hours to kill Fergus before quitting the game in disgust. And I'm on the normal difficulty level ("Action" I believe it's called).

I tried:
* DK as a wizard shooting fireballs (or whatever they were), my char as a warrior with slashing skill.
* Vice versa.
* DK as a wizard shooting fireballs, my char using a bow.
* Vice versa.
* Both DK and my char pounding on him with knife and sword.
* Running away and dropping through the hole, resting then fighting again.
* Running away and closing the gate.

Every time I'm near killing him, he heals. Over, and over again. Though I've never managed to get him down more than 2 or 3 times in a row. It's ridiculous. The third human character I have to fight in the game is nearly impossible for my wimpy characters to beat. It's not any fun.

Apparently, I get to restart now and kill all of the rats and guards again, making sure I save every single health potion I come across. However, I think I only used one before this, and it likely won't matter since he seems to continually be able to heal himself once he's below half.

5 Mana potions and 12 health potions??? I've found 3 or 4 health total and NO mana. It's no wonder I'm getting my *bleep* kicked. Please tell me that finding health is not random in the very first bit of the game...

Nelno he only heals once (at least in my experience).
You can also try and make a run to the painting, click on it, then access the shrine to drink from the health thingie there if your health gets low.

Fergus only heals up once, IIRC.

If you are having THAT much trouble with him, lure him close to the hole that you came up into the area out of, and use it for tactical retreats whenever you run low on HP. He can't follow you down there.

i not quite so sure what all the fuss about fergus is, he wasn't so tough when i took him on, nailed him first go and only needed a few potions, hero with short sword and DK with bow. the worst fights are when mages gang up on you and end having to chase them around the screen wasting a lot of potions and what not just because the buggers won't stand still for a sec so you can whack them with something sharp and pointy.

I have to say, here in August 2014, playing the Steam version, Fergus is a huge surprise so early on in the game. I read everyone's comments about having loads of pots, upgrading skills, doing things and finding stuff, and I think 'How?' As far as I can see, there are a few cells, an underground tunnel and one room to explore before Fergus's room, and there's no opportunity to gather so much equipment and level up so many skills.

It's incredibly frustrating, for sure, but it's also hugely good fun. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back for another try! laugh
