Saving the game consistently causes the game to crash to desktop. And there is no savegame when I restart the game either. This occurs both before and after the English patch. Is there anything that can be done about this? Because currently the game is unplayable for me. (I am NOT starting over each time!)

Do you have admin rights on your pc?

Are the directories inside "Beyond Divinity" writable? Is the dir "BD" writable?

Do you have an error.txt and debug.lst? If so, could you send it to david-qa@larian.com

Thanks!

Also, have you run Scandisk or defrag on that drive recently? Did you shut down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game?

I do have admin rights. (I am the sole user. I have changed things where I get a warning "this will affect all users")

I am not quite sure what you mean by "writable", but I did not make any adjustments that would result in it being impossible to make/alter files in the BD directory. I was also able to run the patch, so I'm quite sure that the directory is not protected.

I do not have any error of debug file in my BD directory. Maybe it is located elsewhere? (running a search would be pointless, since lots of programs generate those kinds of files)

I have not defragged/scanned lately, but wouldn't I have some sort of problems with my other games/programs too then?

I tend not to have other programs running. Particularely virus scanners, as they can cause lots of problems, and I'm behind a good hardware firewall anyway. (small local network with shared internet access)

Does it crash immediatly when you press save or does your computer work a second or two first?

Also, try switching resolution, I saw someone in who's case this helped, but not sure why.

Kris

It crashes immediately when I tell it to save after I've entered a name. Lowering the resolution does not help. (to be honest, I don't see how it could)

Help? Please? Anybody?
I'd much rather not find out I've spent 35 Euros on a matching pair of drinks coasters.

Okay, I did some investigating and foun out that the Beyond Devinity directory is somehow labelled "read only". I assume this is what is resposible for my saving troubles. However it seems to be impossible to make it un-"read only".

I can toggle the "read only" switch just fine, (it says to choose whether to make just that director writable or all the underlying ones as well. I coose all of them naturally) but if I select the same menu again, it is back to being "read only". Can anyone help me making the "writability" stick?

I'm not sure what is causing Windows not to change the folder attributes.

Create a new folder, them move all of the files / folders there. Delete the 'Beyond Divinity' folder, and rename the one you created to that. After this, check that the files and subfolders are writable.

I've just tried this, and the directory is still marked "read only". Strange thing is, all my directories are marked in this fashion (I just checked for comparitive purposes, not a clue why this is so) and no other game/program gives me saving grief like BD does.

By the way: I check this by selecting the directory/file and selecting characteristics in the right-click menu. "read only" is marked by a green square in a tick-box. I have never seen green squares in tick boxes before, what is going on here? (I have Windows xp)

In Windows 9x, a grey checkmarked box would mean some the selected items are read-only and some are not. In XP, a green box means that some files are read-only and some are not, or you selected a folder, and Windows could not be bothered to check the files and subfolders. I suspect clearing the read-only flag worked properly. If XP's search feature wasn't retarded you could search the Beyond Divinity folder for read-only files and folders.

It did not work properly. I told it to kill the "read only" on all underlying directories and files as well, and the green square is still there. Also, the game still has the exact same problem. I am beginning to see why a lot of people hate Windows.

Now that I've seen multipel users having this problem (which is NOT normal Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP behaviour), here's a few things to do.

1) Run a virus scanner. Set it to scan all files.

2) Run an adware/spyware scanner (some of these programs do this to convince you to buy their "special" scanning software). I suggest Ad-Aware 6 and/or Spybot Search and Destroy.

3) Run Scandisk (or the WinXP equivalent) and Disk Defragmenter.

4) Get FreshUI from www.freshdevices.com and check some of the advanced settings to see if some computer privileges have been changed somehow (WARNING: Do NOT mess with this program unless you're a power user and know what you are doing. If you know what you're doing, you can use this program to massively boost any computer's performance. If you don't know what you are doing you can KILL YOUR COMPUTER!)

And your comment about people hating Windows, again, this is NOT normal Windows-family OS behaviour... There are plenty of other reasons to hate Windows and Micro$haft
