My experience with fire missiles leads me to think they're a skill point sink. With 5 points invested, I still barely damage even guards who have no inherent fire resistance. Why the spells were created is beyond me. Can a wizard look forward to anything better in the game? And should I have invested those Act I points in any other magical skill, to greater advantage? Your opinions, please.

By other type of damage, do you mean one of the other elements?

I have a combined missile of 3 points fire and 2 points air. It works like hell!
Sneaking around, I can come close unnoticed, release the spell, and they drop dead immediately (level 8 guards are dead in one strike)

Such a spell does cost me 1/3 of my mana reserve though, so i need lots of mana potoins...

Splitting your elements like that is very inefficient, from what I've tested. Putting 2 in one element, and 3 in another element, creates a spell that does up to around 80 damage, but costs around 140 mana.

If you just put 5 into one element instead, you end up with a spell that does up to around 110 damage, and only costs around 80 mana.

Unless I am missing something, what you want to do, for maximum efficiency, is put 5 in one element, then save up 5 skill points, then dump those 5 (in one chunk) into another element etc. Otherwise you're just chewing through your mana unnecessarily.

BTW, a level 5 fire missile seems to do plenty of damage to a guard.

Hmm my main character is a mage. One of the first things i did was invest skillpoints in an elemental attack. I think i have 1 fire point, 1 water point and 1 earth point in my elemental attack. It is useless, it does no damage at all and costs way too much mana. My intelligence stats are way ahead of my other stats for the mage (17 now i think) and still i can only cast two of these attacks before i have to slurp a mana potion. This used to be different in I remember i could take down even the biggest bastards with freeze, fireball and lightning (u could spam like 10 fireballs in 5 seconds ) I hope this changes in the next acts...

Yeah, same feeling here.
Still, some players of the forum said it changed in Act2. I sincerely hope to see this.
