I thought it might be useful to have a guide for players who want to know how each different food item in Beyond Divinity actually affects their party after a good night's rest. Here's a small group I've tested:

Meat: hit points raised
Cheese: stamina raised
Fruit: mana raised
Honey: strength, stamina raised

raised in what sense? with bonuses on waking? after resting, i've gotten everything restored, regardless of the food eaten.

When I said my strength went up, I meant, no matter what food was eaten when I rested, I got a temporary (2 minutes or so) bonus to strength.

In BD, you can no longer eat food without sleeping. The two have to occur together.

If you mean your vitality increases to normal, that's correct: sleeping heals all injuries. But your vitality (hit points) should not increase above normal. Nor should your strength, unless you're wearing something that enhances strength.

No, I know how resting works. I mean my strength attribute increases by about +5 for a few minutes every time I rest, regardless of the type of food I use. After my most recent clean save, however, this has stopped.
