I seem to recall that Larian wanted to receive playing data, but this would be optional. I assume somewhere there is an option to allow data to be sent. If it exists, I can't find it.
It is set on automatically... You can change it from the launcher (to turn it off), before you get into the game. I left it on, so I don't remember exactly where on the launcher you can change it, but it should be there.
