Was <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" />'s 'M' rating based on violence alone? I find that a bit suprising...there are MUCH more violent games that don't earn a Mature rating...

Anyway, kudos to Larian for having the potatoes to resist 'toning' things down for the US release....alot of game companies take that route these days, and I think its blasphemy. All real RPGs should have an M rating.

In my copy of the game there are servered body parts littering dungeon floors (especially BF dungeons), in the Citadel (act 1) there are severed heads in baskets, DK makes a joke about the meat we eat (to rest) is actually imp, I also get a "SQUISH" followed by blood splats whenever I critical something 'organic'. I'm unsure if this is in all versions of the game, but... blood and/or body parts usually lead to an 'M' (15+, sometimes even 18+ here). Silly? Probably, but then aren't all censors? I am sure some of the humour is 'risque' as they say also. They are the only possible reasons I can think of. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

Maybe it's the imps. They can be crude buggers at times. Especially the short ones. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shhh.gif" alt="" />

I would have thought the rating was more for some of the dialogues and sexual innuendo...the horny gay doctor springs to mind...hilarious!

Not to mention when somebody dies (even skeletons or ghosts) either at the same time as or directly from poison, there is a very graphic scene with sound effects of them throwing up and then dying.

The only descriptors on the back of the <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> box are Violence and Blood & Gore. DD had the decapitated heads, the eviscerated bodies and the whole bit and was rated Teen. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The enemies in Divinity were pretty much all non-human, though. Games have used green blood rather than red (to make the aliens more alien) to drop the rating.
