I must admit it's hard to get to know bands here, cus all belgian radio is the same. But still many poeple like "the music on the radio".
My experiance, I was In class with my laptop, I felt like playing 'Within Temptation - Gatekeeper' So I did in the break. Someone said "your music sucks" I didn't mind and played 'icequeen' again someone else said something like 'stop playing that crap'.
Well a month later I hear one of them playing Icequeen and the other one was singing along, I asked them hey did you get that from my laptop? 'cus, normally they shouldn't have taken it' I was kinda surprised they even knew it. the dude answered 'no I've heard it on TV, This is so good!' apparently TMF a music channel had promoted Whitin Temptation.
See where I'm getting at?
It's those poeple I dislike.
It's one of these days...

So you like something from everything? I don't like some genres, no matter what like techno and house etc, I do also believe that poeple should write their own lyrics, If you just have to sing the song someone else wrote... pick a genre, i'm sure i can think of a song i like. except as i said before, pop-country (faith hill, shania twain, garth brooks etc) top 50, and you might want to add most forms of techno to that. i agree with you on the writing your own lyrics thing. unless you're doing a cover. covers are okay. unless you are sheryl crow covering 'sweet child o' mine'. then you should be shot. It's not I only like those I summed, these are just those listen freaquently. ditto. ok sum 41 is no punk, what is it? punkrock? i don't know, I won't label it specific genre. punk and punk rock are the same thing.

I like so much. I also hate a lot too as I (used to) listen to a LOT of music. I guess its easier to go with genres despite how much I hate categorising music.
Dance: (BROAD terminology) Prodigy, Daft Punk, Propellorheads, Chemical brothers, PWEI, Carter USM, Sneaker pimps. Despise modern dance, top 40 crap, garage music.
Rock/metal: (too many) Metallica, Motorhead, Megadeath, Pantera, System of a down, Rob and White Zombie, Clawfinger, NIN, Linkin Park, Therapy, The Wildhearts, Curve, Garbage, etc. etc. etc.
Indie: Oasis, Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets, Pulp, Mansun.
Punk: Kenickie (english group, first album), Sex pistols, Flogging molly and all the others that Faile suggested.
Rap: (SOME, mostly old skool) Run DMC, Public Enemy, Ice MF-T and of couse the beasties, who seem to do it better than any black man alive. I hate, loathe and detest any RnB and almost all the modern 'black music'.
I'll probably stick some more in later.

It's ok to like a lot of different songs and/or "genres". It's even good. Having an open mind and being interested in different things is good for you (and ppl around you ). You can like some songs without liking most in that genre.
The discussion reminded me a bit of when I was a young teenager. The yapping at school: "hehe, you like M.Jackson, what a creep you are. We like Metallica, they're cool." Something like that. LoL So imature. I was mostly into hardrock, metal, punk, new wave, ... back then. But I didn't minded listening to other stuff.
Disliking a song becouse you're "not supposed to like the genre" is... (you can fill in the words yourself)
These days it's hard to make a difference anyway. All got so commercial... And it's not about music anymore, just about making money. To most bands/singers/record labels. Songs with feeling or/and great instrumental play are very rare. A simple beat with simplistic lines is all that matters these days.
Some of my all time favorites are: Temple of doom (maxisingle version) Vampires (by Radio Rama) Emerson, Lake and Palmer Horror movies (Bollock Brothers) Country roads (hard-rock version by Man-X) Naked in the rain (Blue Pearl) ...

I guess I may be slighty immature then. I personally believe anyone who respects the music of Michael Jackson should be shot. He's a sick little child-molesting POS who deserves neither the fame nor the money he has.
Sorry to rant, he just pisses me off.

idd most music gets bland and boring to listen to. Take the flemmish singers 90% is about love.. ok been there done that... "black man music clips" OMG what a cheap showoff, just some ladies shaking their asses c'mon Spear britney, I'ts al about the looks. the money, oh I have no money enough I think I'll do a movie for a while and earn even more.
This is why I like underground music the most. No specific Genre unless it's as bland as commercial music. I have lot's of commercial music in my playlist "Linkin Park" altoh it's mostly popular because the make a lot of noise. remeber Limp Bizkit, Wow in the beginning yeah cool he rock but after a while, There he goes cursing again, been there done that.
