I don't know but the constant interchange between the terms "parasite" or "that Thing!" or "mind worm" and then suddenly "tadpole" has me puzzled.

And its called the tadpole quite a lot, in most of the key dialogues by other npcs outside the party, as if tadpole would just be a natural thing to call a mind flayer brain leech that transforms you inside out lol

I think bug or worm or leech makes sense for hostile reactions by anyone in faerun. On the other hand if the Protagonist is using the worm for Illithid wisdom checks all the time I guess maybe the NPCs might be saying "disgusting larval parasite" and we're just hearing "tadpole," cause its already burrowed that deep? Hehe

What do you think of tadpole in the dialog? To me its like if they said pollywog, just sounds kinda off. Toad Pol.

Its ranula in Latin. Or maybe tadpole just sounds cooler or more ominous in other languages?

Then you will enjoy Avernus, as infernal draws from Latin.

It's a plot McGuffin mate it is basically everything that writers can't be arsed explainig by creative writing. The bigger the McGuffin relevence, the poorer the writing.

I hate the term "tadpole" for it. Makes it sound like something cute, rather than the Lovecraftian horror it should be.
